  15. <p>DIED. JAMES LEO HERLIHY, 66, playwright, actor and author of
  16. the novels Midnight Cowboy and All Fall Down; reportedly from
  17. an overdose of sleeping pills; in Los Angeles. Writing with
  18. hard-edged realism, the Detroit native portrayed troubled adolescents
  19. and those on society's periphery. All Fall Down, published in
  20. 1960, was later made into a film starring Warren Beatty and
  21. Eva Marie Saint. In 1965 Herlihy wrote Midnight Cowboy, which
  22. was the basis for the classic film starring Dustin Hoffman and
  23. Jon Voight. Herlihy's play Blue Denim, also made into a movie,
  24. enjoyed a successful Broadway run in 1958.
